Student Case Study: Sammy-Jo Jones – JD Group

We recently caught up with Level 3 Team Leader Supervisor + Apprentice and JD Group, Millets Supervisor, Sammy-Jo Jones, to gather her feedback on how she discovered her Apprenticeship programme opportunity and how it’s going to date.
Sammy-Jo told Qube, ‘I first joined Millets as a Weekend Sales Assistant in October 2016, starting out with just one day a week alongside my college course. I gradually gained more hours over the months, and after my college course had finished in 2018, I stepped up into the Supervisor role. This was a big step for me, but it has helped with my confidence, and I feel that my hard work was valued. I recognised the importance of progression and the potential to develop further within the job role.’
‘I first heard about the programme through the marketing sent out to stores from head office. I was originally interested in the Retail Team Leader, as this seemed to be the qualification that met my current circumstances. I spoke with my manager, and he agreed it was a good opportunity. I then applied and registered my interest on JD4U. Following enrolment and discussions with my Skills Tutor and manager, I decided that the Team Leader Supervisor + better met my progression objectives, so have since switched to this programme.’
‘For anyone considering enrolling on to the Apprenticeship programme, I think it’s a really good opportunity to gain more knowledge and experience in your job. It also helps towards future career opportunities and provides a lot of transferrable knowledge, skills and behaviours that can assist you in many different sectors.’
‘Sammy-Jo has worked hard to remain on track and engaged since enrolling, all while effectively supporting the team over a busy Christmas period.‘
We also caught up with Stephen Davis, Sammy-Jo’s designated Qube Learning Skills Tutor, who had this to say about Sammy-Jo’s Apprenticeship to date:
‘Sammy-Jo has been a great Student to date. Right from enrolment, she has been engaged and proactive in achieving her goals. Sammy-Jo is always keen to learn and eager to be the best that she can be. It’s a genuine pleasure working with Sammy-Jo, and I look forward to our sessions. Ian (Sammy-Jo’s Store Manager) has also been extremely supportive and accommodating throughout the programme, both demonstrating a passion for development and representing their store and the brand exceptionally. I’m looking forward to supporting Sammy-Jo through the remainder of her Apprenticeship, and witnessing her develop further within the organisation.’
