Student Case Study: Ashley Reynolds – Greater Anglia

We recently caught up with Associate Project Manager Apprentice, and Assistant Area Customer Services Manager, of Greater Anglia, Ashley Reynolds to gather his feedback on how he discovered his Apprenticeship programme opportunity and how it’s going to date.
Ashley told Qube: ‘Having recently left the Army, my career with Greater Anglia started almost 17 years ago, with my first role being a cleaning position at Norwich station. Shortly after this I progressed to become a Team Leader within that department. At the time, Greater Anglia were in the process of introducing new trains, so I decided to pursue my personal aspirations of working my way up within the company and requested to be seconded to the New Train Project. My application was successful, and my new role was highly rewarding. A few years later I was promoted to ‘Route Proving Manager’, thereafter ‘Engineering Test Manager’ and most recently, in October 2021, ‘Assistant Area Customer Services Manager’, which is my role today.
‘Although I have multiple years’ experience in the industry and have completed multiple training courses while in employment with Greater Anglia, including a Level 2 qualification in Team Leading and Level 3 qualification in First Line Management, I felt it was time to ‘formalise’ my newfound knowledge, enhance my qualifications and so enrolled on the to ‘Associate Project Manager’ Level 4 Apprenticeship with Qube.’
‘I believe that my current learning has aided my career progression to my current role. Apprenticeships aren’t easy task, but so worth it!’
‘As someone with Dyslexia and Dyscalculia I tend to struggle with writing of assessments and just generally putting pen to paper as I get easily distracted, however this hasn’t hindered me in working my way up in the company and working towards the completion of my Apprenticeship with Qube.
‘There have been many personal highlights in my career, however I am always very proud when my team members progress and move on, knowing that my support and guidance has help them reach their goals too.’
‘For anyone who may be looking to start an Apprenticeship I would say to go for it, it’s a great way to pick up a new skill and learn while you continue to earn at work.’
