Student Case Study: Helen Price – Four Seasons Health Care

We recently caught up with Lead Practitioner in Adult Care Apprentice, Helen Price, to gather her feedback on how she discovered her Apprenticeship programme opportunity and how it’s going to date.
Helen told Qube: ‘I have worked on and off in care for ten years and have a lot of experience, but I am most passionate about mental health and dementia care. I love caring for others, but more recently have enjoyed being able to help and offer support for other team members that I work with.
‘My manager directed me towards the Apprenticeship and recommended that I apply, so I did! I applied because I am very keen to progress in my career and hope that completing the programme will put me in a position where I have more influence and involvement in decision-making. I am also keen to progress in my own personal development, and believe this will help challenge myself to achieve new goals.’
‘I’ve really enjoyed learning more about the topics I’ve had limited knowledge around. I’ve also really enjoyed the satisfaction of making progress in my own personal development.’
‘The main area of knowledge that I’ve progressed in is in safeguarding children, as that is an area where my knowledge was limited. I was able to explore and learn about our specific policies and processes within the home.’
‘My main learning point has been a personal one regarding my confidence, and I feel I am already making progress in this area. I have been challenged surrounding my own self-confidence and self-belief, and this has been a tough thing to confront. However, with support and determination, I feel I am making progress.’
‘My next steps are to adopt a role that involves leadership and more responsibilities within the home, and to carry on pursuing learning opportunities to further my professional development. My career goals are to enter into a management role within care and have involvement in decision-making and planning care for residents, as well as leading a care team.’
‘For anyone wanting to complete an Apprenticeship, be prepared to be challenged not only professionally but also within your own personal development.’
