What are Apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes for people aged 16 and over. They combine on the job training with nationally recognised qualifications and are a great way build a skilled and motivated workforce.
What is the Apprenticeship Levy, why is it being introduced and how to make the most of it?
The Apprenticeship Levy is here! From 6 April 2017 employers with a pay bill of over £3 million are required to pay their monthly Levy bill and will be able to access the funds to pay for Apprenticeship training from May 2017. Think of the Levy as an investment, not a tax. By implementing a successful Apprenticeship programme you will be able to develop the skills of your workforce and drive business improvement.
What does an Apprentice need to be paid?
The current rate is £3.30 per hour as of October 2015 (this rate is for apprenticesaged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. All other Apprentices are entitled to the National Minimum Wage for their age).
How does an Apprenticeship compare to a degree?
Apprenticeships start at level 2 and go up to higher level 7 elite Apprenticeships, which means you can offer fantastic qualifications and development opportunities for your staff.
Is there a lot of paperwork involved?
Apprenticeships don’t require much paperwork from the employer, unless you’re delivering the training yourself. We can help you with all the relevant documents throughout the time of the programme.
What happens at the end of the Apprenticeship?
This is a great achievement by you both and should be celebrated. After a year or more of training, most young people are hungry for more and need to continue to develop with you so we encourage you to guide and support them on the opportunities available to them next within your business.
What happens if my apprentice leaves before the end of the programme?
We’ll help the apprentice to complete their Apprenticeship elsewhere and find you a replacement.
