Qube takes on the Dragons for Wheelpower

Qube raises over £2000 for the WheelPower charity while competing in their Dragon Boat race!

On the 27th April 2008, on the River Thames near Marlow, some of Qube Learning’s staff, family and friends took part in the “Wheelpower Dragon Boat Challenge!

11 of us crammed into a menacing looking dragon boat, with nothing but paddles and a drum to get us moving. We will were competing against 14 other teams and raced our dragon to raise money for Wheelpower.

Wheelpower is the national charity for wheelchair sport and they do great work in helping people who have become disabled to not only adjust but continue to enjoy sport and life as a whole. We feel this is a very good cause and got as much sponsorship as we could, totalling at £ 2,482.50 to date!

Bisham Abbey Sports Centre is one of the UKs National Sports centres, used by a number of famous named personalities and teams. We arrived at about 9am, all dressed up in our pirate costumes and Qube Learning shirts. We took part in three races, the first of which was at 10.30 am and we finished in 2nd place. Other races took place at 12.10pm and 1.pm, both of which we came 3rd.

Overall, we came eleventh out of all the teams, but we are not so disappointed with the out come as we managed to raise so much money for a good cause. However, we did get a prize for the best dressed team! See some phots of the day below, click to enlarge the photos and find out more about our day on the river . . .
