Skills Development Programme

What is the Skills Development Programme (SDP)?

The SDP is a collection of tailored entry level courses, designed to give individuals the skills and knowledge required to make them stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs or starting work within a new sector.
The programmes are flexible; and can be tailored around the specific needs of the group or adapted to the requirements of the local job market.

How can I get involved?

As a learner?
Skills Development Programmes are a great way to get the skills that employers look for. They are jointly funded by the Skills Funding Agency and depending on eligibility it is usually free to attend.
The courses are usually run at places such as JobCentre Plus (JCP) offices, regional or community development projects and charities. If you would like to enrol on a programme, you could contact your local JCP with information on Qube Learning.

As an employer?
Employability & sector based work academies are sometimes viewed as trying to provide the unemployable with basic skills: this is not the case. Recently employers have been incorporating the Skills Development Programme into their recruitment strategy, but why?
Funded academies are a method to recruit cohorts of employees who are both skilled in areas such as food safety and organisational procedures. All candidates are trained and ready for interview, employers just have to hand-pick the most suitable… and the process doesn’t cost them a penny!

As a government or other employment/ development organisation?
The Skills Development Programme guarantees positive work outcomes for a proportion of participants, but increased skills and employability prospects for all those who successfully complete

The programme is focussed on results, regardless of age or ability.
